Ophrys aranifera var. fucifera nasce nel 1793 come Ophrys fucifera Curtis, Fl. Londin. 6: t. 67. descritta in Flora Londinensis or, Plates and descriptions of such plants as grow wild in the environs of London. La storia รจ molto complessa e intrecciata, parecchi autori all'epoca utilizzano questo nome nelle proprie flore, il nome viene ripreso, credo in modo illegittimo da J.E. Smith che descrive Ophrys fucifera Sm. 1830, ma molto probabilmente il tutto termina correttamente in un semplice sinonimo di Ophrys aranifera / sphegodes, come attualmente accettato.
